YANKTON – Coen Cook had a game-winning RBI double Saturday to send Harrisburg Gold to a 3-2 victory over Brookings in the championship game of the American Legion Senior A State Tournament at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium. Harrisburg Gold won the state championship for the first time.
Tate Larson led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk. With two out, Cook slammed a double into the left-center field gap to score Larson with the winning run.
Eli Kokenge pitched a three-hit complete game for Harrisburg Gold with five strikeouts.
Brookings took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Nolan Miles.
Harrisburg Gold cut that lead in half in the bottom of the fourth as Jack Riley singled in a run.
A double play ground ball scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh for Harrisburg Gold, who will begin play in the Central Plains Regional Tournament Wednesday in Rapid City.
