Velda Pitlick, 86, of Pierre, SD, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Highmore Healthcare Center.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Pierre, SD, with inurnment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Pierre.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be given in her memory to Avera Hospice (800 East Dakota Avenue, Pierre, SD 57501).
Velda was born on March 25, 1937, to Roland and Anne (Morrow) Patterson at her home in the southeast corner of Hyde County. She was the second of twins with her sister, Verneal, born just a few minutes earlier. Due to a blizzard she and her sister were delivered by their father.
Velda attended country school through 8th grade and went on to graduate from Highmore High School in 1957. Velda married Joseph “Joe” Pitlick on June 8, 1963, in Highmore. They were married 56 years at the time of Joe’s death.
Velda worked for the State of South Dakota for 37 years after she graduated from high school. Velda took up bowling as a hobby. Velda and Joe enjoyed living in their country home for many years. They also spent time gardening.
Velda is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law; Michael (Beth) Pitlick, Janet Lehmkuhl, Paul Pitlick all of Pierre, Ken Pitlick of Newcastle, WY, Dave (Jane) Pitlick of Onida, SD, and Tom Pitlick (Rita) of Keystone, SD, and her twin sister’s husband Terry O’Brien of Highmore, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, her brothers Milton (Dixie) Patterson and Lyle Patterson, her twin sister Verneal, sister-in-law Mary Ann Pitlick, brother-in-law Roger Lehmkuhl, and friend Phyllis Squires.
