William “Scotty” Hannum, 82, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on September 30, 2023. He was born on September 8, 1941, in Pierre, SD, to the late Katie Tibbs Hannum and Lloyd Hannum.
Scotty, as he was affectionately known, had a vibrant personality and was loved by all who knew him. He was a fun-loving individual who cherished spending time with his family. Scotty was also known for his loyalty and hard work throughout his life.
In his early years, Scotty attended Teton Country School for his primary education and later graduated from Ft. Pierre High School. He further pursued his education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD.
Scotty’s career in banking flourished, eventually leading him to successfully run his own business in Denver until his retirement. He was highly regarded in his field and made a significant impact on those he worked with.
Scotty is survived by his loving wife, Florence Hudson (Judy) Hannum, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He also leaves behind his son, Brian Hannum, and daughter, Sabra Hannum Shields. Brian’s wife, Lisa, and Sabra’s husband, Pat, were cherished members of Scotty’s extended family.
Scotty was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren Tanner, Alica, Tyson, and Trey. Tanner’s wife, Melissa, and Tyson’s wife, Stacey, were beloved additions to the Hannum family. Scotty’s great-grandchildren, Leighton, Ayden, Katelyn, and Bailee, brought immense joy and happiness to his life.
In honor of Scotty’s memory, a service will be held at the Ft. Pierre Congregational Church on Saturday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. Following the placement of his urn at Scotty Phillips Cemetery, a fellowship will take place at the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center. These gatherings will provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together and pay their respects to a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many.
Scotty will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
