Got any secret family recipes? Or do you just go with whatever’s on the back of a Campbell’s soup can?
A new poll found 71% of Americans have at least one family recipe that was passed down to them. And we tend to think those recipes are pretty good.
Two-thirds think they have at least one that’s worthy of a bestselling cookbook. Here are a few more quick stats on family recipes . . .
1. 54% of people with family recipes got one from their parents . . . 40% from a grandparent . . . and 24% from a great-grandparent.
2. A lot of those recipes are still just written down. 46% have a family recipe on note cards or paper . . . 40% have one written in a recipe book . . . 25% know at least one by heart . . . and just 13% have a digital copy of one.
3. You might expect Baby Boomers to have the most family recipes on hand, but it’s actually Gen X. 77% of Gen X’ers have at least one. Then it’s Boomers, 76% . . . Millennials, 68% . . . and Gen Z, 53%.
4. Do you have any original recipes YOU plan to pass down? Over a quarter of us do. 27% plan to pass down at least one recipe of their own.
