Enrollment in the Pierre School District is down this fall (2023) compared to last year.
Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says when they put together the budget for this year, they anticipated enrollment to stay neutral.
Glodt shared the preliminary enrollment number and their plan for working out the budget impact of having fewer students than they’d anticipated.
Glodt says lower enrollment isn’t a unique problem to Pierre.
In mid-August, Stanley County School District Superintendent Dan Baldwin said their preliminary numbers showed 415 students.
The breakdown is: 142 students in high school; 97 students in grades 6-8; 166 students in grades JK-5; and 10 students at the Cheyenne School.
