PIERRE – The roller coaster-like last half of the 2023 regular season took a big, tough drop for the Pierre Governors on Tuesday.
Three days after a dramatic comeback five-set win over Aberdeen Central, the Governors lost to Brookings at the Riggs High Gym 25-18, 19-25, 27-25, 26-24.
Macy Even paced Brookings (14-15) with 16 kills and a block. Rylee Thompson had seven kills.
Reese Terwilliger had 14 kills and a block for Pierre (10-9). Abby Kropp registered 10 kills. Makayla Sherwood had four scoring blocks. Elly Broers served three aces.
The loss leaves Pierre at ninth in the seed points standings, meaning that they will likely have to defeat Sioux Falls Jefferson on Tuesday to have a chance to host a SoDak 16 match on November 9.
