RAPID CITY – The coronation didn’t happen for the Monarchs. Instead, the Flyers flew high.
Chester Area won its first volleyball championship since 2015 and avenged a 2022 title match loss with a five-set win over Warner 20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 15-13 in the SDHSAA Class B Volleyball State Tournament at the Summit Arena at The Monument.
Jacy Wolf had 18 kills, 14 digs and 17 set assists for Chester (33-2). Emmerson Eppard had 15 kills. Addison Bates had 14 kills, a solo block and four assist blocks. Lily Van Hal had 12 kills, four block assists, 39 set assists and eight digs.
Lauren Marcuson had 18 kills, three aces and two block assists for Warner (39-1), which was denied its third straight championship and saw a 58-match winning streak end.
3rd Place: Burke def. Castlewood, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20
Emmie Hausman paced Burke (33-5) with 14 kills, two aces, a solo block, a block assist and seven digs.
Presley Knecht scored 16 kills for Castlewood (22-10).
5th Place: Colman-Egan def. Wolsey-Wessington, 22-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-20, 15-11
Brynlee Landis helped Colman-Egan (30-6) rally from a two-set deficit with 20 kills, two aces, a solo block, two block assists and eight digs.
Kailynn Dorris had 22 kills for Wolsey-Wessington (30-6).
7th Place: Faulkton Area def. Gayville-Volin, 25-21, 25-15, 25-15
