PIERRE – After a rough start to the season Friday and a tight first half Saturday, Reese Terwilliger and her Pierre Governor Girls Basketball teammates stepped up their game.
Terwilliger scored 24 points, including 18 in the second half, and had eight rebounds as the Governors earned their first win of the season, 51-39 over Rapid City Central at the Riggs High Gym.
Pierre (1-1) built an eight-point second quarter lead before Central (0-2) scored 12 straight points. Then, the third quarter was the difference.
With the help of 10 points by Terwilliger and two three-pointers by Lennix DuPris, Pierre outscored Central 21-8 in the third quarter and led by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter.
Ryann Barry scored nine points for Pierre and DuPris netted eight.
Leah Landry led Central with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
