FORT PIERRE – Micah Buffalo broke a tie with a third-period goal and Katherine Reiss scored twice Saturday as the Oahe Capital Girls won their home opener 6-3 over the Brookings Rangers at the Expo Center.
Kiersten Miller, with her second assist, set up Buffalo’s go-ahead goal at 5:30 of the third period for the Capitals (4-0-1-0).
Emily Nemec scored a first-period power play goal to bring the Capitals to a 1-1 tie, then Brenna Ullman scored at 2:24 of the second for a 2-1 Oahe lead. After goals by Sawyer Triplett and Miyah Foerster for Brookings, Reiss’ first goal of the game squared the score at 3-3 with 1:49 left in the middle period.
Brylee Kafka’s 13th goal of the season with 3:41 left in the third was followed by Reiss’ second goal of the game with 90 seconds remaining.
Oahe outshot Brookings 23-16. Sophia Peschong made 13 saves in goal.
