PIERRE, SD – Richard Wayne Brown of Pierre, SD was welcomed with open arms into heaven on January 12, 2024 early in the morning. Rick was born to proud parents, Ronnie and Sherry Brown, on July 9, 1967 in Lower Brule, SD.
He was raised in Lower Brule alongside his brothers: Ronnie, Randy, Ryan and Rance. Rick graduated from Lower Brule High School in 1986.
Rick met the love of his life, Lois Vantiger, and heaven rejoiced when they married on May 30, 2007. Rick cherished his three step children: Nathan, Jessica, and Alicia.
Rick was an old soul and a quiet man. He was humble and never complained about what he didn’t have. The only time he would grumble was when the weather got cold because he hated it. He was a very hard worker and took great pride in every accomplishment regardless of how small. He was kind and generous and would do anything for those he loved. He had an infectious smile and a laugh that if you were lucky to hear it you wouldn’t forget it.
Rick took joy in the simple things, and looked forward to watching his favorite TV show, Lonesome Dove. He loved original Lays Potato Chips, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and drinking endless pots of straight black coffee. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he would get them laughing until their faces hurt.
At the time of his passing, he was the custodial supervisor at the federal building. He took so much pride in his job and all the work he was able to accomplish during his time there. Per his wishes, a funeral will not be held. Rick wanted all that loved him to celebrate his life and cherish all the memories.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 27 years, Lois Brown, of Pierre, SD; his step children, Jessica (Cody Nilson) of Pierre, SD, Nathan (Cassie) Blackmore of Brookings, SD, and Alicia of Nebraska. Rick’s cherished mother, Sherry, of Lower Brule, SD and his brothers; Ronnie (Jodi) Brown, Randy Brown of Aberdeen, SD, Ryan Brown of Sioux Falls, SD and Rance (Reyna) Brown of Hesperia, California. His grandchildren and many friends and extended family members.
Rick, your absence will forever be a painful reminder of how much you are loved and so greatly missed.
You were a diamond in the ruff; and what an honor and privilege to be so lucky to have gotten to love you.
