FEBRUARY 9, 2024:
The State “A” and “AA” Gymnastics Meets starts today (Feb. 9, 2024) at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre.
Opening ceremony for the Class A TEAM competition is at 10am today. Opening ceremony for the Class A INDIVIDUAL & ALL-AROUND competition will be at 10am tomorrow.
The Class AA TEAM competition will begin at 3:30pm today and at 3:30pm tomorrow for the INDIVIDUAL & ALL-AROUND completion.
Class “AA”
The top eight teams from the state qualifying meets are competing. Those teams are Pierre, Harrisburg, Mitchell, Watertown, Brookings, O’Gorman, Yankton and Aberdeen Central.
Mitchell is returning to defend their team title this year. Harrisburg had the top qualifying meet team score with 179.30. 87 gymnasts will compete during in Class “AA” over the two-day state meet.
Class “A”
Eight teams will compete for the Team Championship. These teams represent the top team from each region or state qualifying meet, along with the next six highest team scores from the region meets. Teams competing are Britton-Hecla, Deuel, Estelline/Hendricks, Madison, Parkston/Ethan/Hanson/Mt. Vernon, Chamberlain, Vermillion and Hot Springs.
The Estelline/Hendricks team will be trying to defend their 2023 championship.
In addition to the 8 teams qualifying for team and individual competition, Sisseton, Kimball/White Lake, Milbank Area, Wall/Kadoka Area/Philip and Wagner/Bon Homme also qualified individuals for the State Meet. 83 gymnasts will compete in Class “A” over the two-day state meet.
Estelline/Hendricks had the top qualifying meet team score with 142.725.
JANUARY 30, 2024:
The Pierre Governor gymnastics squad competed in the ESD Conference Meet on Saturday (Jan. 27, 2024) in Watertown, coming away with a fourth place finish– good enough to qualify them for the team competition at the upcoming State Gymnastics Meet.
Pierre totaled a 138.5 score, one of their highest marks of the season, and had the fourth highest total score among teams competing in Class AA qualifying meets. The three teams ahead of the Governors also came from the ESD Meet as Harrisburg edged Mitchell for the conference title. Watertown came in third ahead of Pierre.
The Governors qualify for the team competition which will be the first day of the State Gymnastics Meet that Pierre will host February 9-10 at Riggs High Gym.
