The Pierre Governor basketball teams split a pair of games Tuesday night (Feb. 6, 2024) with the Huron Tigers.
In the boys matchup in Huron, the Governors trailed for much of the game before taking a 44-42 lead in the fourth quarter. But Huron countered with a 5-point flurry and was able to close out the Govs for a 50-46 win. The Tigers closed the game on a 10-2 rally to improve to 10-6 on the season. Pierre was led by Luke Olson’s 13 points and 12 from Jett Zabel, all in the second half, but fell to 9-7.
In the girls game, however, Pierre used a pair of impressive rallies to top Huron at Riggs High Gym, 58-45. Down 19-13 in the second quarter, the Governors ended the first half on a 15-5 run and then outscored the Tigers 18-3 in the third period to put the game out of reach. Ryann Barry scored 15 and Reese Terwilliger added 14 to key the win for the 11-5 Govs.
Both teams will meet Brookings Tuesday with the boys again on the road and the girls at home for Senior Night.
