Carolyn Jeanne LeCompte-Frazier was born on March 11, 1975, in Eagle Butte, SD, to Barbara LeCompte and Willard Male Bear. Carolyn began her life with her mom Barb at her grandparents’ home in Ridgeview, SD. This is also where she met her first lifetime friends, Aunt Beth, and her cousins Rick and Mona. After a short time at Grandpa and Grandma’s, her mom Barb started a job in Aberdeen, SD. Aberdeen then became her home, and it is where she completed her years of schooling. She then attended the Clearfield Job Corp in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she studied auto detailing and painting. Carolyn enjoyed watching her boys grow and was a very proud momma of the young men she raised and their accomplishments. She also enjoyed beading and going to the casino.
On March 1, 1994, Carolyn became a mother to her first-born son, Tyler Jaymz. Together the trio remained in Aberdeen until Grandma Barb retired and they moved to Eagle Butte in 1997, where she then reconnected with her lifetime partner and husband, Vetal, Sr. The young couple met when they were 14 years old, and Carolyn commemorated her and Vetal’s love by carving their names in her Grandpa Ivan’s barn. After a short time, they went their separate ways but life brought them back together. Carolyn and Vetal married on June 23, 2001, and soon after, Tyler was joined by his three brothers, Vetal Jr., Jonathan and Brandon. Grandma Barb affectionately referred to them as the “four brothers”. After losing Grandma Barb in 2009, the family moved to Mobridge, SD, until the death of her oldest son, Tyler, in 2017. During Carolyn’s time in Mobridge, she was blessed with her grandsons, Carter and Zayden. The family then moved to Parade, SD where Carolyn lived out the rest of her life with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Vetal; sons: Vetal, Jr. “Junebug”, Jonathan “Jon-Jon”, and Brandon; brother, Willard Male Bear, Jr.; grandsons, Carter, and Zayden; uncle, Chuck (Sharon) LeCompte; aunts: Dixie LeCompte, Susie (Jim) Shihady, Woody (Steve) Klein, Beth (Jake) Johnson, Eunice (Charlie) Moudy; brothers-in-law: Simon (Alice), Kermit, Micheal, and Bryan Frazier; and sisters-in-law: Delberta, Natasha, Dawn, and Deloris Frazier.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her mother, Barb in 2009; son, Tyler in 2017; father, Willard Male Bear, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Ivan and Adelle LeCompte; paternal grandparents, Vincent and Esther Thundershield; uncles: Marvin and Hank LeCompte, Roland Thundershield, and Nathan Frazier Jr.; aunt, Eloise “Gig” LeCompte; cousins, Rick, Mona and Colt; and special cousin, Jeri Jewel Garreau.
