Shayla Mae was known by friends as “Shady” or “Shady Lady” and by family “ShadieMae”; Shayla loved spending time with mom and family. Shayla became a proud and protective mom to D’Angelo when he was two weeks old and she raised him as her own child very loved. Shayla liked attending Pow Wows with her son D’Angelo and getting him involved with Lakota teachings. Shayla enjoyed cooking and baking, trying different recipes for family meals. Shayla enjoyed watching new releases of movies with her son D’Angelo, she enjoyed reading while at Dialysis and if the book was interesting, she would finish reading and say “that was a good one”. Shayla enjoyed the company of friends who would visit her in Rapid City, SD.
Shayla Rae was only 37 years old at the time of her death; but Shayla had health issues at a young age with juvenile diabetes and was later on dialysis in her twenties; she then had cancer; at which time she was a “Warrior Woman”. Every day was a special day for Shayla. Shayla never let her health get in her way, she was always willing to do something or go somewhere with family just to see everyone have fun with a lot of laughter along the way. Family meant everything to her. Shayla passed away at her home in Rapid City, SD with her mom, Rilla, son, D’Angelo and special friend, David Robideaux by her side. We give thanks to the Lord for 37 years of beautiful life with Shayla Rae. Thanks be to God!
