HUDSON, SD – Raymond Fischer, 78, of Hudson and formerly of Eagle Butte, passed away, Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home in Hudson, SD.
Due to inclement weather, a celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Central Time, Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg, where his family will speak and say prayers. He will be buried in the Eagle Butte Cemetery, along with his brother-in-law, Michael McDougal’s cremains who passed away January 12, 2014.
He was the son of Casper and Katherine Fischer who together produced an amazing legacy of generations who love and support each other. He is preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Surviving are brothers Andy (Joy) Fischer and Leo (Lois) Fischer, along with NUMEROUS nieces and nephews. Raymond expressed abundant love for each of them.
At the tender age of 18 years old, Raymond married Pamela McDougal in 1964, daughter of Miller “Mac” and Glenna. Pam marrying Raymond when she was only 16 years old is not what the McDougal’s had planned for their daughter, but they quickly recognized the love Pam and Raymond had for each other. What started out as a reportedly solemn event attended only by their mothers, ended up with countless memories of love and laughter shared by the two families who united as one.
Tami, a true daddy’s girl, was their only child until 19 years later, another “surprise” came along and they were blessed with their son R.J. Raymond was father-in-law to T.D. for 35 years and to Brenda for 14 years. He loved and treated them as his own. R.J. and Brenda’s children, Chanel, Paz and Axel, brought him immeasurable joy.
Raymond was a kind, humble, loving, and hardworking man all his life. He was full of integrity and wisdom, and we will so miss relying on his knowledge. He never was one to take a handout, instead always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He put the needs of others, especially his family, in front of his own, teaching us the meaning of unconditional love.
Words cannot express how much he was loved by his family and how much we will miss the gaze of his loving eyes. Our only comfort comes as we hold hope in God’s promise that we will be together again. He was truly the definition of “one life lived… many lives changed”.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Raymond’s arrangements.
