PIERRE, SD – Cleo Klatt (Miller) of Pierre passed away at the age of 99 on May 1, 2024. A Fellowship Visitation time will be held 1:00 – 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Feigum Funeral Home with Funeral Services beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
She was born on October 1, 1924, in Castlewood to Joe and Gertrude Miller, the last daughter of six girls and one boy. While in high school she was a cheer leader, who excelled at acrobatics. Cleo graduated number one in her class of nine, from Castlewood High School in 1942 and then went to Commercial College in Watertown. She then moved to California to be a “Rosie the Riveter” to help the war effort, but she didn’t weigh enough, so she had to settle for a desk job in the ship yards. Cleo’s high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Klatt, had joined the navy and was also in California. On June 13, 1945, they married with one of Bob’s male shipmates as Cleo’s bride’s maid. She loved playing cards, especially duplicate bridge and pinocle, and eating chocolate candy. Because her husband was a SD Highway Patrolman, they moved around the state with assignments in Rapid City, Huron, Milbank and Pierre.
Cleo is survived by daughter, Barbara Ann Jones, of Pierre, son, Michael Klatt (Diane) of Rapid City, and grandson, Ryan Klatt of Saint Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters, Dorothy Stubbendieck (Warren), Thelma Plowman (Cliff), Margret Frantz (Bill), Marilyn Lundeen (Leo [Swede]), and Betty Gardner (Clarence [Butz]), and one brother, Robert (Bob) Miller (Carna).
In lieu of flowers, Cleo’s family suggests contributions to Countryside Hospice at 415 S. Crow St., Pierre, SD 57501.
