The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) and Milt Morris, of Pierre, have partnered to offer anglers a new place to catch fish in the Pierre area.
“Milt’s Pond” is located along the road to Cow Creek Recreation Area. After nearly three years of discussion, GFP and Morris came to an agreement to allow public access for anglers to fish.
“Milt has done a tremendous amount of work to this pond,” said aquatic habitat and resource biologist Kyle Potter. “He has built two fishing piers and easy access to the shoreline around the entire water body.”
Late last fall, GFP stocked 250 brown trout in the pond, and recently 300 yellow perch and 150 Atlantic salmon were stocked with plans to stock more fish in the future.
“This is a great place for families and beginning anglers to go and have a great fishing outing,” Potter said “Mr. Morris really has a great place and he wants people to enjoy his pond and the great fishing that it can provide. Even though the pond overlooks Lake Oahe, it can give beginners an easier place to fish.”
“The hope of ‘Milt’s Pond’ is to help create excitement with young anglers with a drive to be in the outdoors instead of being on their screens,” said Milt Morris.
Milt’s Pond, as well as all other public waterbodies, can be found on the Public Fishing Access Map.
