A 50 year old man from Pierre has been charged with multiple violations after a traffic stop Monday afternoon (June 10, 2024, 2pm CT) in Pierre.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says a Patrol Officer observed David Shortey III driving a vehicle. The Officer was aware that Shortey’s driver’s license was suspended, so a traffic stop was made near the intersection of Polk Avenue and Capitol Avenue. Another adult and a young child were also in the vehicle.
During the traffic stop, it was learned that Shortey had been smoking marijuana and was ultimately arrested and taken to the Hughes County Jail. He’s charged with contributing to delinquency or CHINS or A/N of minor, driving while suspended, DUI 1st, failure to maintain financial responsibility, ingesting a substance to become intoxicated, and possession of marijuana 2 oz or less.
