Violet L. Goetz, 96, Java, SD, died Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 17, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, led by Pastor Brian Nies. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Pianist will be Carol Fiedler, usher will be Carlyle Bieber, and the congregation will sing “This is my Father’s World”, “Amazing Grace”, and “What a Day That will Be”.
Visitation commences one hour prior to the funeral service.
Violet Louella Buckenberger, daughter of Dorothy (Wolf) and John A. Buckenberger, was born March 4, 1928 at her grandma’s home in Java. Her mother died in June 1934 and in February 1936 John married Ella Wolf. Violet lived in Bowdle the first years of her life and attended Bowdle School through 2nd grade. She and her family then moved to Java where Violet completed her schooling, graduating from JHS in 1946. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN where she was employed at Dayton’s Department Store. She returned to Java in 1948 and married Oliver G. Goetz on September 26. They farmed SE of Java, moving into Java February 28, 1972. In 1973, Violet started her vocation as a painter in which she was active until ill health forced her retirement in February 2021. She worked part-time for 30 years at the Java Red Owl Store and the Java Café. Also, from 1973-1993 she planted trees for the Walworth County Soil Conservation Service. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java and the St. Paul Lutheran Church Altar Guild. She also belonged to the Java Garden Club since 1956. She belonged to the Java Home Arts Club and served on the Java Community Housing Board for 18 years. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, and gardening. Violet especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
Violet is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Saueressig and her husband Thomas of McClusky, ND; one sister, LaMoyle Aman of Aberdeen, SD; 6 grandchildren—Scott Kringstad and Brian Kringstad of Sioux Falls, SD; Jean Kringstad of Apple Valley, MN; Grant Saueressig of Keen, ND; Katie Signalness of Watford City, ND; and Joel Saueressig of McClusky; and 16 great grandchildren—Gwen, Signalness, John Signalness, Clint Signalness, Kevlar Saueressig, Chevelle Saueressig, Tribute Saueressig, Denali Saueressig, Bella Saueressig, Chloe Saueressig, Piper Saueressig, Nathan Kringstad, Oliver Kringstad, Lillian Kringstad, Violet Kringstad, Stellan Kringstad, and Freya Kringstad.
She was preceded by her husband, Oliver, on November 5, 1992; her parents, John and Dorothy; her stepmother, Ella; her daughter, Carol Kringstad, on April 6, 2016; her brother, Calvin Buckenberger; and brother-in-law, Calvin Aman.
Honorary bearers will be Violet’s great grandchildren and casketbearers will be her grandchildren.
