A 25 year old man from Pierre faces charges after an early morning traffic stop on Saturday (Aug. 24, 2024, at 1:30am).
According to the Pierre Police Department, a Patrol Officer witnessed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Wells Avenue and Harrison Avenue. Using radar, the Officer clocked the vehicle’s speed at 56mph in a 35mph zone. The Officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as Jose Rojas. While the Officer was speaking with Rojas, the Officer smelled the odor of alcohol and burnt marijuana so he had Rojas perform field sobriety tests. The Officer ultimately arrested Rojas and transported him to the Hughes County Jail charged with driving without a valid license, DUI 1st offense, and speeding.
