Pierre, SD – Sheila Mary Tople, 65, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, in Irene, South Dakota. Born on November 15, 1958, in Miller, South Dakota, Sheila’s life was a testament to the power of warmth and friendliness that she effortlessly spread to everyone around her. The cherished daughter of Francis and Agnes (Lichty) Koeck, Sheila’s early years were spent in the close-knit community of Miller, where she attended school and formed many friendships. Her formative years were filled with the simple joys of small-town life, which helped shape the wonderfully loving person she would become.
Sheila’s journey through life was marked by her devotion to her family. She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Kaphle (Tom Riggins) of Kadoka and Roxy Tople of Pierre. She is also survived by her siblings, Sharon (Alan) Kingsly, Jerry (Judy) Koeck, Paul (Sheri) Koeck, Joe Koeck, and Diane Biedler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tim (Lori) Koeck, brother-in-law James Biedler, and sister-in-law Tara Koeck.
Sheila’s work life was varied and after moving to Pierre, she took on multiple roles at Pizza Hut, Ramkota, and various nursing homes. It was in Pierre that she met James Tople, and their union blessed them with two daughters. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, Sheila’s role as a mother remained her most cherished accomplishment. She later relocated to Sioux Falls to be closer to her sister.
In 2014, Sheila’s health took a turn, and she spent her remaining years receiving care at Sunset Manor in Irene, SD. Despite her illness, she never lost her zest for life or her ability to connect with those around her.
Sheila’s interests were simple yet profound. She found joy in the daily crossword, the freedom of a leisurely walk, and, most importantly, the company of her family. These moments were the ones she treasured most, as they allowed her to express her love and kindness in the most personal of ways. May she rest in peace, knowing that her love will echo through those she leaves behind.
