Pierre, SD – Alice Hillmer,86, of Harrold died on Monday, September 9th in Chadron NE. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 13th at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt. Isburg Funeral Chapel has been placed in care of the arrangements.
Alice was born on July 6, 1938, in Sheldon, Washington to Franklin and Wilma T (Weirauch) Jacobs. Following her father’s Naval service the family moved to Pierre where Alice grew up and graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1956. After graduation Alice married Ivan Hillmer on June 9th, 1956 in Pierre, to this union seven children were born: James, Pamela, Marjorie, Tony, Brenda, Bonnie, and Connie.
Alice’s career was marked by the joy she found in her most memorable job at Buhl’s Laundry, where she met and made many friends over the years. Following Ivan’s retirement in 1996, the couple moved to a small farm in Harrold, embracing the simplicity and beauty of rural life. After Ivan’s passing in 1998, Alice continued to live in Harrold.
Alice was a part of the Pierre Women’s Traveling Softball Team, the Fort Pierre Moose Lodge, and the Wesleyan Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, watching sports, working on puzzles and always had a flower garden.
She is survived by her five daughters, Pamela Dillon of Hay Springs, NE, Marjorie (Bill) Stuwe of Pierre, Brenda (Robert) Redden of Pierre, Bonnie Hillmer (Jeff) of Hemphill, TX, and Connie Hirsch of Seguin, TX; her 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, her sons James and Tony, Tony’s wife Dawn, her granddaughters Brandi Krog, Tonya Hillmer, Reah Sullivan, her great-grandson Arthur Westergren III, and her siblings Tom, Jerry, Robert, Jim, Charles, Doris and husband Jerry Hendrickson, Betty and husband Pat Haisch, Joyce Aulner and son-in-law Larry Dillon.
