PIERRE, SD – Mildred Doris Hill, affectionately known as Millie by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 95 in Pierre, South Dakota.
Millie was born on January 23, 1929, in Bixby, South Dakota, to Gene and Melissa (Teller) Baker. She grew up in Faith where she attended grade school through high school with her sister Betty.
In 1947, she followed her passion for beauty and aesthetics by enrolling in Green’s Beauty School in Rapid City. After graduating she moved to Huron and worked at the St. Charles Beauty Shop. Later she bought her own beauty shop in Gettysburg, South Dakota in 1951.
On July 23, 1955, Millie married her true love, Max L. Hill. They soon welcomed their first son Mark Eugene Hill who passed away at just five days of age. They were later blessed with Melinda in 1960 and Jeff in 1962. After the birth of their daughter, Millie decided to stay home and raise her two children.
Max and Millie moved to Pierre in 1964 with their family. She went back to doing what she loved and worked as a beautician at Mary House, retiring in 1994.
Her dedication to her craft led her to a fulfilling career as a beautician, where she not only enhanced the beauty of her clients but also touched their lives with her warmth and genuine care. Millie’s legacy is one of love and kindness.
She is survived by her daughter Melinda K. (Keith) Borg from Gary, SD and son Jeffrey J. (Dawn L.) Hill from Pierre, SD.
Millie was preceded in death by their son Mark; her husband Max; her parents; and sister Betty Collins.
