PIERRE, SD – Jeremy Peter Buchholz, 49, affectionately known as “Buck” passed away unexpectedly at his home in Pierre, SD, on November 12, 2024. Born on January 19, 1975, in Huron, SD, Jeremy’s journey through life was marked by his dedication to enriching the lives of others.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a Celebration of Life/Time of Sharing beginning at 7:00pm. Funeral service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Grey Goose Store and Social Club (28886 Merry Rd, Pierre, SD 57501).
Jeremy spent his early years in Huron before attending Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, SD. He eventually found his calling when he moved to Pierre. It was here that Jeremy’s impact became evident through his work with various organizations dedicated to supporting those in need. His time at Capital Area Counseling, SD Cares, and Oahe Inc. During this time Jeremy assisted former governor Mike Rounds with an education program called “Face Facts: Meth Makes You Ugly.” They went to schools around the state speaking to students about drug use. This showcased his ability to uplift and aid others, leaving a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Jeremy won the 2018 Capital Journal Hometown Heros award for his “service and dedication to others.” In his most recent role as a Cultivator for Bad River Farms in Ft. Pierre, he nurtured both the land and the relationships he built within the community.
Jeremy’s zest for life extended beyond his vocational pursuits. While working at Oahe Inc he met the love of his life Stacy Boardman. They were married on December 28, 2021. He cherished his time spent fishing; and taught all of the kids to fish. He enjoyed attending rock shows, playing cribbage, and simply being with his family and beloved dog, Iris Rose. Jeremy could often be found doing yardwork and enjoying the outdoors. He was also an adrenaline junkie who used to love his “crotch rocket” motorcycle and fast cars.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stacy; his daughters, Jenna Moeller (Clifford Monroy) of Pierre and Alena Heilman of Huron; stepsons Alex Ingram and Kryon Schmidt of Pierre. His mother, Joan Buchholz, Step-sister Jami Anthony and family of Pocatello, ID, and a host of relatives, in-laws, friends that he considered family and of course his dog Iris Rose also survive him. Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, Peter “Pete” Buchholz Jr., and his grandparents, Peter Buchholz Sr., Myrtle Buchholz, Charles McKay, Phyllis McKay, his friend Travis Bales, DJ and Barb Johnson, and Chance Veurink.
Jeremy’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will continue to inspire a legacy of love, kindness, and spirited generosity. He will be profoundly missed, yet the impact of his good works will endure in the lives of the many he touched.
