PIERRE, SD – Lois Dianne Wiskur,79, passed on November 20th in Brookings. Daughter of Joe and Louise Wiskur, Lois was born in Elkton August 8, 1945. Attended rural school and graduated from Elkton High School. Lois then attended Stewart’s School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls, SD. She was an accomplished cosmetologist for over 40 years. Pierre was where Lois made her dream come true. With her devotion and skill to making every head of hair look fabulous, a little house became the Scissor Hut. Later, she moved her business to the St. Charles Hotel. Lois was a member and served as President of the SD State Board of Cosmetology where she did school evaluations and salon inspections. In 1984, Lois was named SD Cosmetologist of the Year. This award was given for contributing toward community leadership and the advancement of the beauty profession. Probably one of her biggest accomplishments was serving on the National-Interstate Council (NIC) as a delegate from SD. Her capabilities earned her several positions at NIC including National President. Lois traveled to many states for national meetings and made countless memories with friends from all over. Lois truly loved living in Pierre. She took many pictures of the Capitol in all seasons, participated in the Pierre Players theater group, had coffee with the best of friends, kept on top of the state’s politics, got invited to several Governor inaugural parties, and loved the Capitol Christmas trees. Lois especially loved shopping and decorating for Christmas. Progression of Parkinson’s had her closing the Scissor Hut and moving to Brookings to be closer to family. The magnitude of her capabilities as a stylist, businesswoman, and being a member of multiple organizations was exactly the opposite of her rather small physical stature. To quote Lois: I live in a little house, drive a little car, and have a little beauty salon with a little stylist”. Surviving siblings, include: LeRoy Wiskur, Judy Kampmann, John Wiskur, Janice Cronin and David Wiskur. Lois was preceded by her parents, siblings Roger Wiskur, Gayle McKenna, and DeWayne Wiskur. Final resting place for Lois is in Elkton SD.
