Marlon was born at Fort Yates, North Dakota to Eunice St. John and Edward Martin on January 7, 1969. He was the second oldest of four siblings; brothers, Martin St. John and Merlin Martin; and sister, Marlena Martin. He spent most of his life in Crow Creek, South Dakota, raising his daughters, Alisa and Natosha, and special granddaughters, Ivanna and Nashaya. Marlon worked at Crow Creek Head Start for 20 years, taking pride in his work performance, and helping everyone he could. Marlon was a proud, dedicated, and dependable worker; someone everyone could rely on.
What he was most proud of was being a father and papa. He enjoyed drinking a beer, having a good laugh, and telling stories and jokes. He was one of the humblest people you could have met. He could fix anything. The jack of all trades, these are just a few of many things about the greatest man we ever knew. He will live through us all.
Marlon is survived by his daughters, Alisa and Natosha Martin, Kassidy Eagle, Marquita Stands Fast, and Lashawna Stands Fast; son, Torrie Big Eagle; sister, Marlena Martin; brother, Martin St. John and his partner, Odean Stands Fast; special grandchildren: Ivanna, Nashaya, Raymond, Jr., Justin, Ky’mani, Kei’Lani, Carmen, Keanu, Bostyn, Ky’rin, Kingsley, Tayshia Flute, Kai Big Eagle, and Kiarah Big Eagle; and all of the many family and friends who loved, cherished, and shared many memories with Marlin.
Reuniting with his family are his mother, Eunice St. John; father, Edward Martin; brother, Merlin Martin; sons: Dejoe, Degrey, and Dimigo; grandson, Liam Big Eagle; cousin, Terry St. John; aunt, Lavonne St. John; uncles: Al Jr., Bobby, Maynard, Merle, Dean, Tad, Vernon, and Verle; and special brother, Shane Fallis.
