Hughes County Commission meetings are, for the most part, currently held at 5:30pm CT on the first and third Mondays of each month. That will change– at least temporarily– in January 2025.
During Monday night’s (Dec. 2, 2024) meeting, Commissioner Rob Fines had no preference, but said evenings might be better for allowing the general public to attend, if they want to.
Long-time Commissioner Bill Abernathy said they’ve held meetings in the morning in the past.
Commissioner Connie Hohn said most county commissions in South Dakota do meet during the day. That prompted this conversation between Hohn, Fines, Abernathy and Commissioners Randy Brown and Tom Rounds.
The Hughes County Commission’s Dec. 16 meeting will still be at 5:30pm CT. The change to a 9am meeting time will begin with their meeting Jan. 6, 2025.
