Memorial services for Bill Wiest, 75, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM, Thursday, 12, 2024, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Per Bill’s request the family asks everyone to wear jeans or dress casually for Bill’s service.
William Raymond “Bill” Wiest, 75, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at Mobridge Regional Hospital. Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Bill was born on April 8th, 1949, to Hugo and Judy Wiest and attended school in Mobridge. In 1968, he enlisted in the Army and served two terms in Vietnam.
On December 29, 1973, he married Hollie Vilhauer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge. The couple made their home in Mobridge where they raised two sons, B.J. and Justin.
In high school, Bill worked for Bierschbach’s beer wholesaler in Mobridge where he worked with his father. Upon returning from Vietnam, he went back to work at the beer warehouse which started a 45-year career. His son, Justin, followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and worked with Bill at Northwest Beverage creating 3 generations of Wiest’s working in the beer wholesale business.
Bill’s legacy is one of love, laughter, loyalty, and selflessness. His family and friends will forever remember the smiles he brought. He was always spreading laughter with his sense of humor and unforgettable one-liners. He had a knack for brightening the room and never hesitated to roll up his sleeves to get things done. He rarely missed a day of work and no matter the size of the load or how bad the weather was, he never complained.
After retirement, Bill enjoyed spending time with family and watching the Minnesota Twins and Green Bay Packers. He did miss interacting with the businesses and accounts he had worked with for so many years. Bill cherished the relationships he had built.
Bill is survived by his sons, B.J. (Stacy) Wiest and granddaughter Tessa Wiest of Aberdeen, SD; Justin (Tara) Wiest and grandson Brantley Wiest of Mobridge SD; brother, Terry (Susie) Wiest of Yankton, SD; sisters, Sharon Miklos of Mobridge, SD, Karen Aberle of Mobridge, SD, Fern (Rick) Stanley of Sioux Falls, SD, and Bette (Chris) Eckroth of Mobridge, SD
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Hollie; parents, Hugo and Judy Wiest, and sister, Connie Griffith.
