Mobridge-Pollock swept Aberdeen Roncalli Tuesday in a basketball doubleheader. The Lady Tigers improved to 4-0, defeating the Lady Cavaliers 50-45. It was another hot start to the game that made the difference, Mobridge-Pollock led 16-5 at the end of one quarter. It was 27-16 at the half, before Aberdeen Roncalli stormed back in the third quarter. Going into the fourth, it was just a three point game. Junior Blake Thompson led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17 points, senior Charley Henderson added 13 more. For the Lady Cavaliers, junior Claire Crawford hit three triples en route to a 17-point performance.
The Tigers boys were successful as well, taking down the Cavs 56-43. Sophomore Shooter Frederick made three shots from behind the arc in the first quarter, scoring 9 of Mobridge-Pollock’s 15 points in the opening period. However, in that span, Frederick picked up three fouls, which kept him out for much of the next two quarters. Freshman Kyson Good Shield replaced Frederick during that span, and would make two three-pointers of his own. Coming out of halftime with a 30-24 lead, Mobridge-Pollock outlasted the Cavaliers later into the game, outscoring them by seven in the second half. Sophomore Kale Knudson led the team in scoring with 12 points, Frederick finished with 11, and Senior Shane Henderson had 10 in an effort that also saw the big man shut down Aberdeen Roncalli’s forwards on the defensive end. Tigers improve to 2-0, Cavaliers now 1-1.
