The single-game scoring record the Mobridge-Pollock girls basketball team set back on January 16 did not stand for long. They put 89 on the scoreboard that night against Crow Creek, but Monday in Gettysburg the Lady Tigers scored 90. It was another blowout win for one of the clear best teams in the state, as the local matchup belonged to Mobridge-Pollock 90-44 against Potter County. Their now-trademarked full-court press was the bellwether for one of the most dominating opening quarters of the season, they led the Lady Battlers 35-7 at the end of the first. By halftime the train had left the station, and was a 48-16 runaway. The starters for Mobridge-Pollock sat most of the second half, but the reserves raced for 24 points in the fourth quarter to set the new scoring mark at 90.
Junior Blake Thompson set a new season high with 26 points, the most any Lady Tiger has had in a game this year. As the team’s primary three-point shooter, she took advantage of every inch of space Potter County was willing to offer, sinking five shots from behind the arc. Senior Charley Henderson had her best game in weeks, adding 15 points with unstoppable post moves. Also, sophomore Cheyenne Rath had a career night, with 10 points off the bench leading the way for the Lady Tigers fourth quarter charge. For Potter County, junior Peyton Stevens was their catalyst with 18 points. Mobridge-Pollock, now 10-1, plays next on Friday night against Chamberlain. It will be their first home game since their December 30 loss to Lakota Tech. Our coverage of the doubleheader against Chamberlain starts at 6:20 on January 31.
