The Buffaloes faced off with the Unity Christian Knights of Iowa yesterday from the Heritage Classic, and Stanley County knew this would be a good measuring stick game for them as they turn down the final stretch of the regular season. After talking with a few folks tied into high school basketball around the Midwest, if Unity Chirstian played their ball in South Dakota, they would be one of the top programs in the state.
The Knights put a starting five on the floor that didn’t have a single player standing under 6’1″, and they played a long, fast style of basketball that gave the Buffaloes issues. Stanley County hung tough in the first half, getting a couple big shots from sophomore Eddie Duffy. The Knights defense took over in the second half as they were able to generate a steal on what felt like every other possession. Senior forward Jackson Vogel finished his game with 17-points and was named the Baumann Lumber Player of the Game for his great play on both ends of the floor. Teegyn Breitag also had a very nice second half for Stanley County, doing what he could to keep them in the game with 8-points in the third and fourth quarter.
Stanley County looks ahead to 6-6 Todd County on Tuesday night to start a four-game homestand.
