Weather permitting, Pierre has 40+ blocks of city street on the agenda to have work of some sort done this summer.
The $1.9 million contract for 2025 includes street maintenance, complete street rebuilds, mill and overlay work, thin lifts and patching.
City Engineer Nick Waters says the larger areas of work will be done on Broadway Ave. between Euclid and Jefferson Avenues. He says the contract also includes several blocks that include underground utility work and a variety of smaller projects throughout the community.
However, Waters says, the project that will have the most impact on the traveling public in Pierre will be done by the South Dakota Department of Transportation– the reconstruction of Euclid Avenue. He says Pierre will replace the city owned water main that’s underneath Euclid Avenue while the SDDOT has the street torn up.
Waters says Morris, Inc., will begin work on the city’s paving projects as soon as the weather allows.
