On Friday night in Fort Pierre, Stanley County boys basketball hosted Mobridge-Pollock in what was the Buffaloes final game of the regular season. In a back-and-forth nail-biter, Stanley County prevailed 65-60. The Tigers took the first lead of the night, before the Buffaloes heated up from three and ended the first quarter ahead 18-16. They led for much of the second also, before eight straight Mobridge-Pollock points vaulted the Tigers in front 37-31 at the half.
That lead would not hold for long, as the Buffaloes went on a tear to start the third, and would net a game-high 23 point quarter to go ahead by one at the start of the fourth. The final eight minutes was a defensive struggle, as Mobridge-Pollock managed just seven points the rest of the way and were unable to mount a short comeback in the final stages.
The stars were out for Stanley County, as Eddie Duffy, Kaden Montana, and Paxton Deal scored 51 of the team’s 65 points. It was a similar story for Mobridge-Pollock, as they relied on the trio of Jackson Eisemann, Shane Henderson, and Kale Knudson for 51 of their 60.
Buffaloes end their regular season at 15-5, and finish second in the regional standings just behind Cheyenne-Eagle Butte. Mobridge-Pollock is now 11-8, with one more game to go at home Saturday against Todd County. They can not finish any higher than third, but a loss against the Falcons could drop them. Friday’s defeat makes it four straight losses now for the Tigers, and five of their last six.
