The Buffaloes came out with clear intentions, score and score quickly. Head coach Joey Fischer has always had the mantra “shoot early and shoot often”, and his team took that to heart with an onslaught of early threes to take a quick lead over the visiting Crow Creek Chieftains. Within the blink of an eye, it was an 8-5 lead for the Buffs with only about 2:30 gone in the first quarter. Crow Creek, as talented as they are, simply couldn’t keep up.
Kaden Montana got back to his early season groove by finding his footing in the lane and taking a couple strong finishes to the rack, but the night belonged to Paxton Deal who finished, by my count, with 29 points and refused to miss. It seemed every shot Deal threw up went down, hitting 6-threes and helping the Buffs cruise to a 74-43 victory. Teegyn Breitag played the role of unsung hero having a dominant night rebounding and winning the Buffs back multiple possessions throughout the night.
However, maybe the biggest positive of the night was how much the Stanley County bench saw the floor. Fischer was able to rotate his second-five in as they spent almost as much time on the hardwood as the starters did. This will come back to help Stanley County immensely as they are tasked with a back-to-back due to a weather postponement earlier this week. The Buffs will welcome a red-hot Mobridge-Pollock team into Parkview tomorrow after the Tigers dominated Chamberlain by a score of 52-23. Saturday’s game between Stanley County and Mobridge-Pollock will tip off at 5 PM CT and be broadcast on KGFX, Star 99 and streaming on DRGnews.com.
