It’s official, T.F. Riggs High School has produced a first round draft pick in the NFL. Moments ago, the Seattle Seahawks used their 18th pick to take Grey Zabel. The Seahawks desperately needed to address issues with their offensive line (mainly the interior), and they took a huge step in the right direction taking the Pierre native.
Hundreds of Zabel’s family & friends gathered to see Zabel get selected
When you ask about Zabel from those who are closest to him, they are passionate when describing the level of hard work Grey put into his craft. Not only did the Seahawks get a dedicated athlete, they drafted a humble leader that will be an instant fit in their locker room. But make no mistake, the happy-go-lucky guy known off the field can easily flip the switch to savage when he steps between the white lines.
Zabel, a decorated player at Pierre and North Dakota State University and, joins rare company with the title of ‘First Round Draft Pick’. He also becomes the highest drafted lineman in FCS history, another surreal achievement. It says a lot about a person when an organization operating in a multi-billion dollar business wants you to be their first pick in the ever-important draft. Seattle looks to Zabel to make an immediate impact upfront protecting their newest quarterback Sam Darnold. Zabel steps into an offense that will lean heavy on the passing game, which will be relying on another new addition to the offense in star-receiver Cooper Kupp. Seattle has hopes of running a high-octane offense in 2025, but they must protect the quarterback. So, the fit with Zabel and Seattle just makes sense.
Zabel will fly out to Seattle first thing tomorrow morning to put ink to paper and officially become a Seattle Seahawk.
