Following the graveside service the family would like to invite everyone to join them at the Copper Ridge Lodge (22400 Cemetery Rd, Draper, South Dakota 57531) for a time of fellowship and luncheon. Isburg Funeral Chapel has been placed in care of the arrangements.
Patricia was born on December 26, 1931, in Pierre, SD to the late Ralph and Pauline Mathews. She was the oldest of five children raised on the Mathews family ranch near Draper, SD. During her early years Patricia attended a small country school and later graduated from Pierre High School. While completing her nursing degree at the University of Denver, Patricia met her late husband, Leonard Lindy Greer. The two were united in marriage on December 27, 1953. The newlyweds moved frequently while Leonard completed training in Virginia, Wyoming, Illinois, New Mexico, eventually returning to South Dakota where they started a family. Their first son Matthew was born in Sept 1956, daughter Janet arrived in April 1959, and their youngest son Russell was born in May 1969. Prior to Russell’s arrival, the family relocated to Ft. Collins, CO where Leonard furthered his engineering education at CSU. During the summer of 1969, the family made one final move to Overland Park, KS, their home for many years. Patricia remained in the family home after Leonard passed away in Sept 1993. Due to declining health, Patricia relocated to Golden, CO in January 2017 to reside with her son Matthew and daughter-in-law Diane. Four years later she was transitioned into long-term assisted living/memory care in Golden/ Monument CO regions.
Patricia loved hosting and socializing with friends, neighbors, multiple bridge teams, and with church members. She was well known in the neighborhood for her freshly baked apple pies, cookies, tea rings, and other scrumptious goodies. Patricia stayed in frequent contact and traveled often to see family members and friends that lived out of state, even when it required a 600+ mile drive on her own. She especially looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and her South Dakota siblings. At home, Patricia toiled for hours in her flower beds and garden; producing and canning enough fruits and vegetables that could feed an entire neighborhood. Rumor has it that the squirrels and chipmunks who raided her garden and fruit trees feared for their lives, rightfully so. Patricia was an active member serving on various committees at the United Methodist church over the years.
Patricia is survived by her three children: son Matthew Greer (Diane) of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Janet Greer McManus (Alan) of Matthews, NC, and son Russell Greer (Christi) of Wichita, KS. Additionally, four grandchildren survive her: Dallas Greer (Becca), Morgan McManus Sembrat (Nick), Meredith Greer (Jake), and Connor Greer, as well as her great granddaughter Clara Greer, siblings Gerald Mathews (Wanda) and Fred Mathews, sister-in-law Audrey Mathews, brother-in-law Chuck Zucarro, and many nieces and nephews.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Greer, sister Eleanor Mathews Zucarro, brother Philip Mathews, several brother/sister in-laws, granddaughter Megan Greer, and nephew Larry Mathews.
Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choosing.
