The Minnesota Twins are white-hot. Winners of 10 in a row and on the verge of sweeping the Baltimore Orioles, the Twins are playing some of the best baseball in the MLB. Not only have they done it with good pitching, their offense has picked up some bad starts with some great hitting along the way.
Yesterday afternoon, the Twins and Orioles made up a rain-out from the night before with a traditional back-to-back doubleheader. Normally, it seems that teams usually split the doubleheader, as the old adage goes, “It’s hard to beat a team twice.” And these two wins didn’t come easy for Minnesota.
In game one, Minnesota fell behind 3-0 after Baltimore posted three runs in the third, but in the following fourth, Minnesota’s bats came to life. Brooks Lee went deep to add the first run, then later in the inning Christian Vasquez hit a three-run shot to give Minnesota the 4-3 lead. The Twins would add more insurance and win game one 6-3.
In game two, the Twins found themselves in a familiar position trailing 6-4 after a huge third inning by the Orioles which included a grand slam. It felt like the Twins had run out of luck, but this was the Kody Klemens game and he was there to save the day for the Twins. Klemens went 2-4 with 4 RBI and a HR as the Twins came back yet again to win 8-6 and extend the streak to ten straight games.
Should the Twins win again today, it would be the second time in this win streak they have swept the Orioles. Minnesota currently sits three games above .500 at 23-20. In the AL Central, they currently still sit 5.5 games out of first place. Today’s first pitch is set for 11:35 AM on KGFX 1060 AM and 103.1 FM in the Pierre area.
