Patsy Jean Henderson was born on September 7, 1933 to Edward and Elma (Conrad) Strohfield. Patsy grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma but moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she graduated from high school in 1951. She attended Central Missouri State College from 1951-1953. It was during this time that she met her true love Elton Marion Henderson.
Patsy and Elton married on October 4, 1953. They remained married for 58 short years until Elton’s death in 2012. To this union were born two children Janet Carolyn and Gregory Terrence.
Patsy and Elton spent the first 20 years of marriage in Oklahoma, Montana, and Arizona and South Dakota. They spent time at the Ft. Belknap Indian Reservation from 1966-1969, the Navajo Reservation from 1969-1973 before moving their family to Pierre. During their stay in Montana, Patsy furthered her education attending Northern Montana State College in 1968.
Patsy enjoyed traveling all over the western part of the United States in their motorhome visiting family and seeing Parks and Recreation Areas. She enjoyed seeing places her and Elton had discussed but never seen. Patsy and Elton also spent time travelling to Europe and the eastern United States to visit their grandchildren.
Patsy was actively involved in the Oahe Presbyterian Church and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program, the Pierre Pantry, and various activities at Maryhouse. She was an avid reader and gardener with other hobbies including walking, fishing and camping. Patsy quietly fostered interests in finance and property management.
Grateful and thankful for having shared her life is her son, Greg (Karen) of Suffolk, Virginia; three grandsons, Kyle of Middlesex, Virginia, Connor of Newport News, Virginia and Nick of Hampton, Virginia; son-in-law William Cole of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Patsy is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Elma Strohfield, husband Elton, daughter Janet Carolyn, sisters Sue Higgins and Anne Begg and brother Pete Strohfield.
