It has been a rough few weeks for the Twins. The team unloaded virtually all of their best players (moved 10 players at trade deadline) and supplemented that by bringing up eight minor-leaguers to fill the holes. Twins fans were none too pleased with the moves wondering what the plan for the future was. Earlier this week, the Pohlad family took the team off the selling-block and announced they will be looking for outside investors instead of cashing in on their investment in which they paid a measly $44 million for. The Twins attendance numbers have dipped to a new 16-year low, and angered fans wonder how much longer they will have to wait on another World Series.
The Twins are technically still in the playoff hunt as they sit 6.5 games out of the Wild Card. The race for the division is essentially over, the Guardians will have to continue to their tear to catch a really good Tigers team. However, as Lloyd Christmas once said, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?”
After the moves made at the deadline, the roster doesn’t feel like it has the legs to track down that final Wild Card spot, but they can certainly play spoiler.
One of the few remaining bright spots of the Twins roster in Joe Ryan brought his A-game last night, going 6.2 innings giving up just one run on five hits to the skidding Yankees. On offense, the Twins spread the wealth with seven different players earning hits in their 4-1 victory. Luke Keaschall continued to produce with an RBI, Kody Clemens drove in two and Royce Lewis drove in one. The Twins lost the series, but avoided the sweep as they look to carry any bit of momentum into a homestand comprised of four games with the first-place Detroit Tigers. First pitch of game one tonight is slated for 6:40 PM CT and will be broadcast on KGFX 1060 AM and 103.1 FM in the Pierre area.
Here is the Twins homestand highlights for the upcoming week:
