As part of the ramp up to the celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday next year (July 4, 2026), some patriotic activities will take place at this year’s South Dakota State Fair being held Aug. 27-Sept. 1 at the state fairgrounds in Huron.
The America250 activities include:

A fireworks display after the Bull Bash Wednesday night and Thursday night;

A re-enactment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, allowing students to sign their own version of the document Thursday at 12:45pm at the NorthWestern Energy Freedom Stage;

Shuck Yeah! The Great American Corn Eating Contest Thursday at 3:30pm at the Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage;

Great American Hot Dog Eating Contest Friday at 1:30pm at the DeSmet Farm Mutual Insurance Stage;

Great American Pie Eating Contest Saturday at 12:20pm at the NorthWestern Energy Freedom Stage;

Red, White and You Day! all day Sunday. Fairgoers are encouraged to wear red, white and blue to help celebrate America250. Everyone who dresses for the theme will be entered into a special prize drawing;

America’s Ag-mazing Race Sunday at 11am west of the Dakotaland Museum;

Great American Animal Calling Contest Sunday at 1:30pm at the DeSmet Farm Mutual Insurance Stage;
-
Patriotic Pairs Look-Alike Showdown Monday at 10am at the Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage.
