Stephan Howard, 34, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Member of Minneapolis, MN, passed away
Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN, with his
mother, Marlis Different Horse, at his side.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Friday, September 26, 2025, at St. John’s Episcopal
Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery. A wake will be 7:00 p.m.,
Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the church, with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.
Stephan Joseph Howard was born on June 26, 1991, in Eagle Butte, SD, to Ivan Laven Howard
and Marlis Ruth Different Horse. He attended South High School in Minneapolis, MN.
Stephan loved spending time with his family, always making everyone laugh with his playful
sense of humor. He enjoyed music, dancing, and being surrounded by people. Known for his
sociable, respectful, and caring nature, he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his partner, Adam Flesher; his son, Jacob; mother, Marlis Different Horse;
brothers: Ryan Howard, Darrien Different Horse, Gabriel Luis-Alonso, Jose Luis-Alonso, and
Laurent Howard; sisters: Amber Howard, Elizabeth Howard, Katherine Howard, Anna Different
Horse, Laurena Carrizales Guerrero, Alejandra Luis Alenso, Chantel Rebles, and Lakita Howard;
as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, friends, and extended
family.
Stephan was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Howard; his brother, Ivan Howard Jr.;
maternal grandparents, Samuel Different Horse and Anna Corrine Charger; paternal
grandparents, Vern Howard and Corrine Cecelia Littleton; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Stephan’s arrangements.
