The Post 4 Mobridge Jr. Legion Baseball team watched a game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 8-1 loss to Onida on Thursday. Onida took the lead in the first inning. Post 4 Jr Legion struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Onida, giving up eight runs. In the first inning, Onida got their offense started scoring five runs in the second inning. Their big inning was driven by singles by Thomas Farries and Garrett Peterson, a walk by Dwight Kinney, and a groundout by Jordan Schall. M Wittler toed the rubber for Onida. He lasted four innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out four. Gavin Reinert was on the hill for Post 4 Jr. Legion. He allowed six hits and eight runs over three innings, striking out two. Jack Faehnrich threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Holden Eisemann and Noah Fried each managed one hit to lead Post 4 Jr. Legion. Mobridge Legion stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Eisemann led the way with two. Onida tallied six hits on the day. Wittler and Peterson each managed multiple hits for Onida. Wittler led Onida with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases. Onida didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kinney had the most chances in the field with six.
Four hits from Reese Cerney paved the way to victory for Post 4 Mobridge Legion over Onida 15-5 on Thursday. Cerney singled in the first, singled in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth. Onida scored four runs in the fifth inning, but Post 4 still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Onida came thanks to a single by Jordan Schall and a double by Thomas Farries. Post 4 got things moving in the first inning. Cerney drove in one when he singled. Then they put up seven runs in the fifth inning. Cayden Eisemann, Cerney, Bryston Goehring, and Holden Eisemann all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Noah Bauer earned the win for Mobridge Legion. He lasted six innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out five and walking one. Post 4 totaled 15 hits. Cerney, Eisemann, Bryston Goehring, and Braden Goehring each collected multiple hits for Post 4. Cerney went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Mobridge Legion in hits.
Onida racked up eight hits in the game. Thomas Farries, Zach Farries, and Jordon Schall all collected multiple hits for Onida. Mobridge Post 4 Legion Baseball will be at Pierre Saturday for a match up with Post 8.
