FT. PIERRE, SD – Jean Hillmer, 78, of Ft. Pierre died on Wednesday, November 5th at Avera St. Mary’s in Pierre. A visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Sunday, November 9th at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre with a 6pm prayer service. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, November 10th at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre with burial to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.
Jean M. (Crain) Hillmer was born February 27, 1947 to Harry E. and Ila (Mason) Crain in Pierre, SD. Jean attended Blunt Schools. She married John J. Hillmer July 9, 1965. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this summer. To this marriage three girls were born; Kim Marie, Tammy Jean and Susan Kaye.
Jean worked for the school lunch program at Riggs High School for 35 years. Prior to this she worked in multiple areas of the food service industry. Jean was known for her wonderful cooking for all the family gatherings. She is best known for her potato salad! John and Jean enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family. But her real passion was spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Jean is survived by her husband John Hillmer; children: Kim (Roger) Weber, Tammy (Aaron) Rose and Susan (Randy) Taylor; grandchildren: Amber (Nick) Lien and child Lane, Tanner Green, Tyson Green, Mila Green, Mickey Green, Emily Rose, Dillon (Danielle) Taylor and children Lincoln and Noah, and Sydnie Taylor.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Ila Crain; brother Edward Crain; sister and brother in-laws Alvin and Betty Millard, Paul and Shirley Bergeson and Janice Kilborn. She is also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law; John and Margarette Hillmer and nephew Corky Bergeson.
