Rhoden holding gathering Tuesday in Rapid City to give a “special announcement”

It looks like South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden will make a long anticipated campaign announcement next week.

Rhoden will be at the Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City Tuesday (Nov. 18, 2025) to make what’s termed a “special announcement.”

All signs point toward Rhoden revealing that he will seek reelection to the job he currently holds in 2026. He would officially join a crowded field in the Republican primary. Others running are Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden, House Speaker Jon Hansen and Congressman Dusty Johnson.

Rhoden is South Dakota’s 34th governor. He acended d to the job in January 2025 following Kristi Noem’s resignation.
