The 2026 National Targhee Sheep Show and Sale will be held in South Dakota in July (July 15-18, 2026).
Hosted by the U.S. Targhee Sheep Association, the 75th annual event will be held at The SHED on the State Fairgrounds in Huron and will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Targhee breed.
Over the course of three days, the National Show and Sale, the National Junior Show, and the sale of all open show sheep will all take place. Participants from nine states are expected, offering an opportunity to showcase and purchase top-tier genetics.
Association member Jon Beastrom from Pierre said they’re excited to bring the National Targhee Show and Sale to South Dakota and showcase the breed in the new SHED facility.
The SHED serves as the permanent home for the Open Class Sheep during the annual South Dakota State Fair and functions as a multi-use livestock facility. It includes a 1,320 square-foot education center and has capacity for up to 1,000 sheep.
The Targhee breed was developed in 1926, and the U.S. Targhee Sheep Association was established in 1951 by a group of leading sheep producers. The association’s mission is to be a member-driven organization that registers, promotes, advocates for, and improves the Targhee breed to ultimately strengthen the U.S. sheep industry.
