The Stanley County Boy’s basketball team comes into the 2025-26 season looking to build on a very successful campaign from a year ago. The Buffaloes head coach Joey Fischer implemented an up-tempo, high-pace offense that features a lot of shooting and quick transition, and he believes he has the horses to make them one of the most dominant teams in the state.
The Buffs return a few valuable starters in Paxton Deal, Eddie Duffy and Tegyn Breitag among others. What Fischer returns in these starters is a couple sharp-shooters from the outside, and as we learned last night, a strong paint presence with Breitag.
The Buffaloes started their season with a dominant win over Miller, scoring 69 points in the victory. It was a great start for the Buffaloes, but everyone on that bench knows it is a long season and there are tough opponents ahead, including last night as the Buffaloes headed out to Winner.
The game was a back and forth affair, both teams trading buckets and the Buffaloes led by Eddie Duffy who scored 23 in the game. Winner took a ten-point halftime lead and held that lead for most of the second half. But the Buffaloes stayed persistent and found themselves ahead with just about one minute to play. Winner drew a foul and hit both free throws to tie the game at 50-50. The Buffaloes brought the ball down the floor, drained a few seconds and called a timeout to draw up a final play. While Fischer was in the huddle, he almost certainly could not have predicted what would happen next. Paxton Deal drove the lane, kicked to the corner where he found Duffy who seemingly could not miss on the evening. However, Duffy was just slightly off on his game winning three. As the seconds ticked away, Breitag secured the rebound and hit a fadeaway that would dance on the rim before falling through as the horns sounded.
The Buffs secure their second win with a 52-50 thriller moving to 2-0.
In the Lady Buffaloes contest, they would fall to Winner 59-45. While Stanley County has yet to find the win column on the girls side, we are seeing a much improved squad from just a year ago. The Lady Buffaloes are continuing to grow the program as it is clearly heading in the right direction. The Lady Buffaloes are seeing success from some returners like Addy Deal who scored an impressive 31-points in last nights game. The Lady Buffaloes have yet to win a game (0-4), but the record is not indicative of how competitive the team is. The Lady Buffaloes, much like the boys, are improving by the game and will look join the win column in Thursday’s doubleheader versus Philip. Coverage will begin Thursday on KGFX at 5:40 PM CT.
