MITCHELL, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers fought hard but came up just short yesterday, falling to Lyman 62-59. Just 48 hours after setting a new team record in scoring against Crow Creek the Lady Tigers comeback effort fell short as they fall to 6-3 on their season.
The Hanson Classic never falls short of amazing performances and for both teams this game was no different. For Lyman early Bree Smart and Mak Scott were unstoppable on offense leading to the early lead. Mobridge-Pollock stayed in this game the entire time however, with contributions from everyone. Another dominant scoring day from Blake Thompson who was feeling it from three especially in the second half during the comeback attempt. Defensively Tegan Konold made life difficult up top. Cheyenne Rath played an unbelievable role in this one, playing more minutes late after some foul trouble for the Lady Tigers, and she not only made a few clutch shots but drew some important fouls to put Lyman in some foul trouble. Jacy Netterville had probably the most impressive performance in this game, going above and beyond her normal role and really stepping up defensively down the stretch. For Lyman the difference maker in this one ended up being Jordyn Scott, who had four personal fouls for a lot of the Lady Tiger comeback effort, but didn’t play conservatively and ended making some crucial plays to help the Raider hold on for the win making her the Riverside Home Furnishing Player of the Game.
The first quarter of this game got started with quick offensive success from Lyman out-pacing the Lady Tigers with Bree Smart and Mak Scott having early success. Mobridge-Pollock quickly found themselves in a double digit deficit in the second quarter but were able to keep it close at the end of the first half not letting Lyman run away with the momentum. Into the second half Lyman came out strong offensively once again with Jordyn Scott really stepping up all over the court as Lyman took a 15 point lead, their largest of the day. The Lady Tiger playing with their backs against the wall started to build some momentum which picked up when Jacy Netterville made one of the defensive plays of the season blindly breaking up an outlet pass allowing the Lady Tigers to find Blake Thompson back the other way for easy points. While they did never take the lead, Mobridge-Pollock brought this game back to a one point game before an unfortunate miscommunication on offense caused a late turnover. After that it was the foul game for the Lady Tigers, but they still had one more possession with under five seconds to play in regulation down by three. Lyman however, brought their full defense to the left side and isolated Blake Thompson who couldn’t get a clean shot off to end it, as the Raiders escaped the comeback attempt with a 62-59 victory.
In their next time out Mobridge-Pollock will travel to take on Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Saturday, January 20 with tipoff scheduled for around 6:00 p.m.
