Governor Girls take ESD Mat Title

BRANDON, S.D. – The Pierre Governor girls wrestling squad took the top honors in the ESD Conference tournament Thursday, in their final tune-up for the upcoming postseason. Pierre scored 168.0 points to outdistance Aberdeen Central’s second-place total of 150.0 and put five wrestlers on the top of the podium with individual conference titles. Champions in their respective weight classes included Shaylee Speck at 100 pounds, Sydney Caven at 105, Lexie Hillmer at 135, Kezrey Benning at 140, and Abbi Lewis at 155. Chevelle Brakke at 115 and Brylee Pelle at 190 added runner-up performances as well. Postseason competition begins next week when the Governors head to Mitchell for the Region 3 Tournament Friday. The top four finishers in each weight class from the Region then advance to the State Tournament in Sioux Falls, Feb. 26-28. See the results below:
