ONIDA, SD – Floyd Alvin Eliason, 85, of Onida, SD died Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Avera Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, SD.
Rosary and Prayer service will be 7:00pm on Sunday, February 15, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Onida.
Memorial service will be 11:00am on Monday, February 16, 2025 at the church.
Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date in Onida Cemetery.
Floyd and his twin brother Lloyd were born at home, on the farm near Lantry, SD on June 29, 1940 to Algot Gothard and Minnie Inez (Horton) Eliason. He attended Lantry school until his father died in 1952, and family relocated to Eagle Butte, SD. Floyd graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1957. He attended college at SDSU and received his teaching degree. He taught for 3 years at Sunny Brook, Elida and Onaka.
On June 7, 1963 Floyd married Margaret “Maggie” Miller at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg. This marriage was blessed with three children, Mark, Matthew and Maradee.
The family moved to Kennebec, SD, where Floyd went to work for GTA Elevator and he quickly rose to the rank of manager. In 1977 the family relocated to Mitchell, SD and Floyd became a Field Representative for Harvest States Co-op. In 1984 they moved to Onida and he became the manager of Harvest States elevator. Floyd and Maggie moved to Fredonia, ND in 1991 to manage the elevator there.
They returned to Mitchell in 1995 and Floyd became the maintenance supervisor at Firesteel Healthcare. He was extremely talented with all trades; everything from construction, electrical and plumbing to computer maintenance. In 2002, Floyd retired from full time employment and started helping his various family members in their businesses. He worked with his brother, Harvey in the concrete business; brother, Lloyd in the construction business; daughter and son-in-law, Maradee and Elwyn on the farm and his granddaughter, Danielle with her spraying business.
In the rare moments when Floyd wasn’t working, he filled his free time with being a licensed HAM Radio operator (WBØMZB) since 1974 and being a master woodworker. He and Maggie really enjoyed camping. They were members of the Good Sam Travel and RV club and they loved spending their winters in Florence, AZ.
Grateful for having shared in Floyd’s life is his wife of 62 years, Maggie. He will also be dearly missed by the rest of his loving family; son, Mark (Dianne) Eliason, grandson, Nicholas (Stephanie) Eliason, great-grandchildren, Isacc and Aaron, and grandson, Adam (Ashley) Eliason all of Rapid City; son, Matthew (Vickie) Eliason of Sioux Falls, SD and grandson, Teiler Eliason of Mitchell and granddaughter, Nichole (Trevor) Warren and great-grandchildren, Rylee Eliason, Marlee Wilson, Preslee Wilson and Lennon Wilson all of Sioux Falls; daughter, Maradee Birdsall, granddaughter, Danielle (Kyle) Rausch and grandchildren, Eli, Emily and Lydia Rausch all of Onida; sister-in-law, Beverly Elison of Salix, IA; and Maggie’s brothers, Marlan (Judy) Miller of Gettysburg; Harlan Miller of Boulder City, NV.
Floyd was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Myron (Betty) Eliason, Eldon (Lola) Eliason, Lloyd (Florence) Eliason and Harvey Eliason; grandson, Alex Birdsall; son-in-law, Elwyn Birdsall; Maggie’s parents Earnest and Hattie Miller and sister-in-law, Betty Lou Miller.
