The South Dakota House Transportation Committee tabled an insurance bill Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2026).
SB 227 would have blocked insurers from totaling a vehicle unless repairs hit 75 percent of its value, unless the owner agrees in writing.
Rep. Tim Walburg, R-Madison, raised concerns about salvage-title branding.
Doug Abraham, lobbying for several insurance companies, warned the bill could keep unsafe vehicles on the road.
The bill was tabled 8-3.
